Downtown Bastrop Dining Just Leveled Up

Every so often, something new opens downtown that makes you stop and think, yep, this is why I love living here.

In January, I tried two new businesses on Main Street in Bastrop: Numero 28 and Pluto’s Wine Bar. Pinch me because I may be dreaming. I was impressed with both. Atmosphere, service, quality. All on point.

Numero 28 has a fun, cool vibe with craft cocktails, great food, and desserts that absolutely finish the experience. The whole package. On my second visit, I ordered the Penne Boscaiola and it was phenomenal. One of those dishes I already know I’ll crave again. Both times I was there, we were celebrating birthdays. Several Capricorns in our family, so January stays busy. They went above and beyond to make both celebrations feel special. There’s a real family-style feel to the place and a sense that they genuinely want to be part of Bastrop in an authentic way. We ended both nights with cannolis, which was a sweet touch, pun intended. My husband has ordered an Old Fashioned there twice, which says something on its own given how particular he is about those. Pluto’s Wine Bar gets an immediate A+ for atmosphere. Super inviting, great service, and an excellent wine selection. But the biggest surprise? The food. I was not expecting it to be that good. I had a delicious beet salad and their smoked half chicken, both generous portions and incredibly well done. My friends ordered oysters, and the stuffed avocado tartare quickly became the favorite at the table. We even sampled caviar, which felt indulgent and fun. To say I’m excited to add these two businesses to the list of fun, go-to spots on Main Street in Bastrop is an understatement.
